ADVENT KITS:  PREPARING THE WAY

Pick up your kit from the designated table in the Commons.

DISTRIBUTION DATES:

November 17-19; 8:30 am - 4:30 pm   November 22; before & after service November 23-24; 8:30 am - 4:30 pm  November 29 (1st day of Advent); before & after service

As we journey through this season of Advent together, we will be introduced to prophets or God’s messengers who helped prepare God’s people for Jesus’ arrival. We will also meet individuals who faced the unexpected and continued to prepare for Jesus, trusting in the promises of God for their lives. And finally, each week we will create time and space to prepare for Jesus through scripture readings, discussions, and activities together.

The kits have a lesson and activities for each week, geared to families.  But the lessons use language and activities that are accessible to all ages.  All are welcome to take an Advent Kit to use at home.

Also available will be two devotional booklets (more appropriate for older youth and adults):
  • Living Well Through Advent 2020:  Practicing Hope with All Your Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind (Published by Living Compass)
  • Peace be with You (Published by the Society of St. Andrew)

All persons working in our ministries are Safe Church trained. This training fosters a culture of safety and inclusion for all people that includes a broad overview of issues of vulnerability, power, and healthy boundaries. It is grounded in our call to seek and serve Christ in all persons and respect the dignity of every human being. The training provides an opportunity to increase and enhance our ability to live out our Baptismal Covenant within our communities of faith and in the world beyond. Those working with children and youth also undergo a background check.

Faith @ Home sends out a weekly set of devotions based on the Revised Common Lectionary. These devotions invite you to engage in the discipleship practice of Reading, Reflecting, and Responding to Scripture in the context of community.

Each one is written for a particular age group pairing, so you can have conversations with everyone, no matter where they're at in life. The Adult and Small Child pairing is designed for preschool students and younger; the Adult and Elementary pairing is for children in elementary (or grade) school.
As this is a growing ministry, we would love your feedback and ideas! You can email us at faithathome@forma.church or contact us via Facebook.
